EU rejects Yanukovych's appeal: sanctions against the ex-president remain

Yanukovych lost his legal battle to lift EU sanctions
Європейський Союз відхилив прохання Януковича: санкції проти екс-президента залишаються в силі.

The EU court rejected Yanukovych's lawsuit to lift sanctions

Viktor Yanukovych lost his legal battle to lift the EU sanctions imposed on him in 2014 and 2022 due to actions that contributed to the destabilization of Ukraine. The fugitive president's appeal was dismissed even after his request to lift the sanctions due to the absence of criminal proceedings and evidence against him.

Yanukovych approached the EU court requesting to lift the sanctions, claiming that they were imposed illegally, but the court did not support his arguments.

Additionally, EU sanctions were also placed on Yanukovych's son, Oleksandr Viktorovych, due to his business ties in occupied Donbas.

Yanukovych's image and new teeth

Recently, Viktor Yanukovych has attracted public attention with his new image, particularly his changed smile. Ukrainians actively discussed this online and created memes featuring his updated flattering smile.

During his video address, Yanukovych also expressed support for Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU and joined a campaign that accuses Europe of hostility towards Ukraine.

However, some experts believe that this video address may be part of the Kremlin's plan to legitimize attempts to change the government in Ukraine. It has been noted that this very position of Yanukovych provoked criticism even among Russian terrorists, indicating a lack of peace in relations between Russia and Ukraine.

After a lengthy legal process, the EU court rejected Viktor Yanukovych's lawsuit to lift the sanctions imposed on him in connection with actions that contributed to the destabilization of Ukraine. Due to his image change and support for rapprochement with the EU, Yanukovych has elicited mixed reactions both in Ukraine and in Russia.
