Japan Joins Effort to Restore Kyiv Pechersk Lavra
Andrii Sybiha’s Visit to Japan
According to Главком: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrapped up a two-day trip to Tokyo, during which he held 18 meetings. Japan has announced its intention to take part in the restoration of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, which sustained damage from a Russian strike. As part of this commitment, Japan will provide support through UNESCO mechanisms.
Additionally, Tokyo is allocating up to $500,000 for a scholarship program designed to strengthen Ukrainian institutions. To deepen bilateral cooperation, Japan will also review Ukrainian proposals for a new level of security partnership. The two countries have signed an agreement to implement the scholarship project under the JDS grant assistance framework, with funding reaching approximately $500,000.
Significance of the Cooperation
During a meeting with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Andrii Sybiha emphasized the importance of information exchange between the nations:
“We are interested in deepening the exchange of information with the Japanese side regarding far-eastern threats to our country from Russia. We are also grateful to the Japanese for their recent contribution of nearly $15 million to the non-lethal component of the PURL.”
