Apple Acknowledges iPhone Duo Display Flaws While FineMTEC Denies Involvement
FineMTEC Responds to Allegations
According to НВ — Техно: South Korean component manufacturer FineMTEC has officially denied any responsibility for the display issues affecting the new iPhone Duo. In a public statement, the company emphasized that the parts they produce meet the required technical specifications and quality standards set by their client. FineMTEC’s expertise lies in producing internal rear panels and metal plates linked to the hinges of foldable OLED screens. Notably, their statement did not directly mention Apple or the iPhone Duo.
iPhone Duo Display Issues Surface
Apple has confirmed that a small number of iPhone Duo units are experiencing internal display defects. Users have reported cracks developing along the central fold and bright lines appearing after only a limited number of openings and closings. One Australian user, who owned the iPhone Duo for about six hours, shared his experience:
“I opened it fewer than 20 times - and the screen cracked in less than 20 folds.”
Apple has advised affected customers to contact AppleCare for a free replacement. The company also highlighted the iPhone Duo’s sophisticated design and durability, pointing out that its frame and hinge cover are made from Grade 5 titanium, with the front display protected by Ceramic Shield 2 and the back panel by Ceramic Shield. Meanwhile, FineMTEC is reportedly considering legal action, both civil and criminal, against those spreading false information related to these defects.
This situation underscores the critical importance of rigorous quality control in manufacturing complex mobile device components, especially when introducing new technologies. Display problems can seriously damage a brand’s reputation, prompting Apple to respond swiftly to consumer complaints. FineMTEC’s denial may reflect an effort to distance itself from the faults and safeguard its standing in the supply chain. This dispute could also affect future component deliveries to Apple, as the tech giant continues to seek reliable partners to maintain high product quality.
As Apple works to address the display issues, many iPhone Duo users have reported similar damage, prompting the company to implement replacement programs and enhancements. This highlights the ongoing challenges faced by manufacturers when introducing innovative designs, as consumer feedback becomes crucial in shaping future improvements.
