Apple Integrates Google Gemini AI into Siri and iOS Ecosystem
Siri Gets a Major AI Overhaul with Gemini-Powered Features
According to НВ — Техно: On June 8 at 9:30 PM, Apple announced it is incorporating artificial intelligence technologies from the Gemini family into its voice assistant Siri and other parts of the iOS operating system. The upgraded Siri, unveiled by Vice President of Engineering Mike Rockwell, introduces several new capabilities, including improved dictation, a semantic index for Spotlight, and on-screen content recognition. The AI-enhanced Siri will launch in beta later in 2026, initially supporting only English and excluding access in the European Union and China.
What’s New in Siri’s Functionality
The revamped Siri can now perform actions within apps and recognize content displayed on the screen. With the semantic Spotlight index, search functions have become more efficient. A key innovation is the voice assistant’s new design, which adopts a dark theme based on Dynamic Island, replacing the previous multicolored effect. Mike Rockwell demonstrated the screen content recognition feature by asking Siri about a location from an Instagram post.
Users of the new Siri will be able to customize the assistant’s voice by choosing from preset options and adjusting the speech rate and expressiveness. The system also includes a "Write with Siri" tool that learns the device owner’s communication style with specific individuals. In iOS 27, users can summon Siri by swiping down on Dynamic Island or using traditional activation methods. On Mac computers, the assistant has been integrated into Spotlight as a standalone application, with its menu bar icon now rendered in monochrome.
- Syncing of Siri chats across devices via iCloud.
- A new built-in Siri mode in the iOS 27 camera.
Currently, Siri AI will not be available in European Union countries or China, though support for additional languages is planned after the initial rollout.
The integration of AI technologies into Siri reflects a growing industry trend toward embedding artificial intelligence into everyday products. It may also signal Apple’s intent to strengthen its position in the voice assistant market.
Despite the limited initial release, these new features could significantly enhance Siri’s usability and attract new users.
As Apple continues to enhance its AI capabilities, the upcoming launch of the revamped Siri is not the only exciting news. The integration of Google’s advanced AI technology is set to redefine user interaction, making it essential to stay updated on related developments.
