Immigration Raids in the US: 81 Detained in Charlotte Due to Trump's Policy

A large wave of immigration raids is ongoing in the United States. Over the past weekend, federal agents detained at least 81 people in Charlotte, North Carolina. This news was reported by 'Glavkom' citing Reuters.

It is noted that mass deportations and strict immigration control remain one of the key directions of US President Donald Trump's domestic policy. Since the beginning of his term, immigration raids have intensified in both large Democratic cities and conservative rural areas.

'The actions of the Trump administration have caused protests in many communities, where local residents accuse agents of excessive use of force, racism, and detaining people without violations.'

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein condemned the agents' actions, stating that efforts should focus on dangerous criminals, but the reality in Charlotte is different. He emphasized that armed agents in masks chase people down the streets, detain them near homes, in churches and stores, and also apply racial profiling. According to Stein, such actions do not enhance security, but rather sow fear and undermine public trust.

Reaction to Local Authorities' Refusal

The US Department of Homeland Security stated that the raids were a reaction to the local authorities' refusal to comply with around 1400 requests for 'detaining' suspects for an additional 48 hours after their release.

'The US presidential administration is considering the idea of acquiring large warehouses to convert them into detention centers for immigrants before deportation.'

Moreover, US President Donald Trump stated that he does not consider immigration raids on US territory to be excessively harsh. He insists on the necessity of deporting people.
