Artem Stepanov Extends His Stay at Utrecht

According to Главком: Ukrainian U21 national team forward Artem Stepanov will continue his career with Dutch club FC Utrecht for the 2026/27 season. The move is structured as a loan deal from his parent club, Bayer Leverkusen of Germany, and includes an option for Utrecht to make the transfer permanent. The club's press service stated they see significant potential in the young striker and are delighted he will showcase his skills at the Galgenwaard Stadium for another year, with the purchase option being a key condition of the agreement. This extension highlights Utrecht's commitment to developing young talent within the competitive Eredivisie.

Eighteen-year-old Stepanov initially joined Utrecht on loan in late January 2026. Since his arrival, he has made 11 appearances, scoring 4 goals and providing one assist. His performances have contributed to Utrecht's current 7th place position in the Dutch league standings, where they have accumulated 44 points after 30 matches.

Real Madrid's Interest and Player's Perspective

Stepanov's progress has not gone unnoticed, with reports earlier indicating interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, whose chief scout Juni Calafat has been monitoring the player. Stepanov shared his thoughts on his time in the Netherlands:

'I'm really enjoying it here. I'm happy to have scored more in recent matches, though I must say I owe a lot for those goals to the team. We will do everything we can to finish the season strongly and, hopefully, qualify for European competition through the playoffs. I want to express my huge thanks to the fans for the support I've received. I'm looking forward to the next matches with Utrecht.'

The decision to extend Stepanov's loan underscores Utrecht's faith in the young forward and his potential in European football. A strong showing next season could open new opportunities for him and potentially increase his market value. The reported attention from a club of Real Madrid's stature confirms that his performances in the Netherlands are being tracked not just locally, but by some of Europe's elite clubs as well.
