Critical Infrastructure Hit in Kyiv, Cutting Off 600 Apartment Blocks

According to ХВИЛЯ: A large-scale assault on Kyiv's critical infrastructure during the night of January 24 has left the Troieshchyna residential district facing the most severe consequences. Approximately 600 apartment buildings in the area are currently without electricity, heating, and running water. City emergency services are mobilizing to improve conditions for residents, deploying additional heating shelters as a stopgap measure.

Kyiv's Desnianskyi district, which includes Troieshchyna, had previously established 145 heating points to assist people during harsh conditions. Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted that the situation in Troieshchyna is the most critical, as all major utilities have been disrupted. To alleviate the hardship for residents, authorities are setting up heating points at the following schools:

  • School No. 263
  • School No. 264
  • School No. 306
  • School No. 275
  • School No. 293

Additional mobile boiler units have been dispatched for rapid connection, and the State Emergency Service (DSNS) is also deploying tent-based heating points.

Massive Combined Assault Targets the Capital

The attack on Kyiv was part of a massive combined strike, during which Russia launched 375 attack drones and 21 missiles of various types. The primary target was the energy infrastructure of the capital and the surrounding region, causing significant disruptions to the supply of electricity, heat, and water. This relentless targeting of civilian energy grids has become a hallmark of the winter campaign, aiming to maximize hardship for the population. The situation remains complex, and municipal services continue to work on restoring utilities and ensuring necessary conditions for Kyiv's residents.

This attack is part of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which continues to severely impact the civilian population, especially during winter when the loss of basic utilities becomes a critical threat to survival.

City services are taking urgent measures to ensure the safety and comfort of residents, but the situation remains tense, and a full restoration of normal living conditions may take a considerable amount of time.
