Ukraine's Cashless Economy Expands in 2025

According to Главком: According to the National Bank of Ukraine, cashless payment activity among Ukrainians increased significantly in 2025. The average in-store transaction value rose to 354 hryvnias, up from 330 hryvnias in 2024. For online purchases, the average ticket size in 2025 was 608 hryvnias. This shift reflects a broader global trend towards digital finance, accelerated by the convenience of modern payment systems.

The total number of cashless transactions for the year exceeded 9.5 billion, with a combined value surpassing 7.1 trillion hryvnias. Cashless payments now account for 95.5% of all transactions by volume and 65.4% by total value. Notably, nearly all cashless payments in retail are now made using contactless or NFC technology.

Trends in Cashless Payments

In the first half of 2025, the average in-store ticket was 342 hryvnias, while the average amount for a card-to-card transfer decreased to 1,864 hryvnias. These figures collectively point to a continued acceleration of cashless settlements across Ukraine.

The growth in cashless payments highlights a shift in consumer behavior, driven by the digitalization of the economy and the widespread adoption of electronic payment systems. The implementation of contactless technology makes transactions faster and more convenient, which can influence overall consumption patterns in the country.
