The USA refuted Hungary's indefinite immunity from sanctions

However, sources in Washington stated that this is not true. According to CNN and Reuters, the agreement between Hungary and the USA only provides for a temporary lifting of restrictions.

Quoting an unnamed White House representative, American media reported that Hungary did not receive 'indefinite immunity'. After meeting with US President Donald Trump, Viktor Orban stated that his country would use Russian energy resources without restrictions.

'In Hungary, energy resource prices will still be the lowest. In the case of the 'Turkish Stream' and the 'Druzhba' pipeline, the country was granted immunity from sanctions. This is a general and indefinite exemption,' said the Hungarian Prime Minister.

Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto also supported this position, stating about the 'complete and unlimited exemption' of the country from sanctions on oil and gas. But a White House representative clearly emphasized that this is only about a temporary agreement that will be in effect for a year. The issue of extending the preferential regime will be decided later.
