Belarus Changes Defense Doctrine: Army to Have the Right to Act Inside the Country
According to hvylya.net: Belarus has approved a bill 'On Amendments to the Laws on Military Security and Defense', which introduces radical changes in the ways of ensuring the country's security. According to the Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service, the Belarusian armed forces will receive expanded powers, especially in the field of internal security.
'The main focus is now on the military component. While previously defense included political, legal, and socio-economic measures, the emphasis is now on military protection. According to the updates, the army in wartime must not only repel aggression but also 'inflict defeats on the enemy' to achieve peace, which corresponds to national interests.'
In particular, attention will be focused on expanding the role of the army in peacetime. The military will be involved in preventing internal conflicts, participating in information warfare, responding to crisis situations in the country and allied states, and countering border provocations. The new norms also expand the grounds for declaring martial law, including aggression against the Union State or CSTO member states.
Ukrainian intelligence reported that Belarus is preparing for a stronger focus on the military component of defense, changing approaches to ensuring national security and the role of the army in the region.
