Ukrainian Warrior Held Off the Enemy in Vovchansk for 173 Days: The Story of a Hero
Fighter Voodoo Held the Defense in Vovchansk During the War
According to glavcom.ua: A fighter of the 57th Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Cossack Ataman Kosty Hordiienko, with the call sign Voodoo 173, defended his position near Vovchansk in Kharkiv region for 173 days, which was recently liberated from occupation. He was sustained with food and ammunition delivered by heavy bombers due to destruction on the ground, but he did not give up.
In his story, he described how assault troops cleared the area of enemy forces and how his group remained on the front line to fend off the occupiers' attacks. There were only ruins, among which he had to hide and move. Even in such harsh conditions, letters from loved ones, delivered by drones, helped to sustain the soldier's morale.
"There are only ruins, no place to hide. I had to move through gaps every day. Only dead bodies around. Bodies lay everywhere. The Russians tried to storm us almost every day. There were many corpses near our position, and we had to walk between them; they already smelled... It was very difficult. Deep in my heart, I feel sorry, but you understand that they came to my home", -- said the fighter.
Voodoo also emphasized how important letters from loved ones are for maintaining morale during tough moments at the front. He advises other soldiers to ask their families and friends to write them letters at the front for support.

Rescuing from Captivity
Unfortunately, not all soldiers have the opportunity to hold their positions as long as Voodoo. However, recently a fighter from the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade, under the pseudonym McGregor, withstood heavy artillery bombardments for 56 days and stood firm against the occupiers. Also, one of the soldiers managed to escape from captivity and warn his comrades about the approaching enemy attack.
