A Ukrainian soldier from the 93rd Brigade shares his family’s story: father and brother still in Russia
Ihor Lastochkin’s relatives and their stance
According to РБК-Україна — Lite: Ihor Lastochkin has spoken openly about his relatives living in Russia, his own military service, and his past work in the country. He confirmed that his father and brother remain in Russia. According to him, he never received a clear answer from them regarding their position on the war, and he does not consider them occupiers.
“As far as I know, they are not fighting-I hope so. Maybe they aren’t even helping the occupation army. So I don’t put them in the same category as those b******* who crossed the border into Ukraine,” Lastochkin stated.
Work experience and the impact of propaganda
Lastochkin worked in Russia until October 2017.
“Unfortunately, it happened that I had to work there until October 2017... I didn’t live there. I would finish filming and leave,” he added.
He also noted the powerful effect of propaganda, which had fostered hostile attitudes toward Ukraine. “They just can’t shake it off. I don’t know. I know propaganda played a big role, because when I traveled there, people treated Ukraine with hostility,” Lastochkin remarked.
Regarding his military service, Lastochkin was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine in February 2023. He joined the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade “Kholodnyi Yar,” where he commands an aerial reconnaissance platoon. He took part in the defense of Pokrovsk and carries out missions in the Donetsk region. This information highlights his active role in defending Ukraine during the war.
Lastochkin’s account underscores the complex family ties that emerge in wartime, as well as the influence of propaganda on how Ukraine is perceived inside Russia. His comments about relatives who stayed in Russia and their unclear stance show that even close family members can hold differing views on the conflict. Lastochkin’s active military service emphasizes his commitment to defending Ukraine, standing in contrast to the concerns and observations he shares about attitudes toward Ukrainians in Russia.
Lastochkin's military journey is particularly noteworthy as he has transitioned from a career in entertainment to leading a crucial aerial reconnaissance unit in the Donetsk region.
