Kyrylo Budanov's Remarks on the Ukraine War

According to Главком: Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, stated that the United States has not set any specific deadlines for concluding the war in Ukraine. He described the ongoing negotiations as a complex and multifaceted process, making it difficult to predict a precise timeline for their conclusion. Budanov emphasized:

“I am not aware of our American partners setting any specific deadlines for the war to end. Of course, we are doing everything possible to expedite it.” - Kyrylo Budanov

Budanov also noted that the peace plan proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump helped raise the issue of achieving a genuine peace. During a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump expressed a desire for the conflict to end as soon as possible, specifically stating he would like the war concluded within a month. However, Budanov stressed that sanctions against Russia must remain in place even after hostilities cease. He added:

“Russia must not have the opportunity to rebuild its economic potential to restore its arsenal. Frozen Russian assets and a significant portion of future revenues should be used to pay compensation and for Ukraine's reconstruction.” - Kyrylo Budanov

Negotiations and Global Interest

Recent talks between Ukraine and the U.S. concluded in Geneva, conducted in two formats: separate bilateral discussions and a trilateral meeting involving the U.S. and Switzerland. Concurrently, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, during talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, emphasized the necessity for equal participation of all parties in peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

The lack of a fixed timeline for ending the war underscores the protracted and intricate nature of the peace process. Budanov's statements highlight the critical importance of sustained international support and maintaining pressure on Russia through sanctions, which will likely shape the future course of negotiations. The involvement of other global powers, such as China, signals a broad international concern for regional stability and the potential for new actors to influence the conflict's resolution. This evolving diplomatic landscape could alter negotiation dynamics and impact the prospects for peace in Ukraine.
