Louvre Restricts Access to Ancient Art Gallery

According to glavcom.ua: The Louvre has temporarily restricted access to the ancient art gallery of Campania due to a safety inspection of the structure and weak beams on the second floor of the museum's southern wing. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing AFP.

The Campania gallery houses over a thousand clay sculptures from Ancient Greece and is named after the 19th-century Italian collector Giampietro Campania.

'Given the complex architectural structure and the renovations carried out in the 1930s, the floor of the second floor of this wing has shown weak spots,' the museum added.

The Louvre administration reported that access will be restricted during the safety inspection to ensure the safety of visitors and the preservation of the exhibits.

Robbery at the Louvre

On Sunday, October 19, a brazen robbery occurred at the famous Paris museum, the Louvre. The perpetrators stole nine items from the collection of jewelry related to Napoleon and the empress. This incident was reported by France's Minister of Culture Rachida Dati, who confirmed that she is on the scene with the police and museum staff.

Let us recall that American museum thief Miles Connor advised the robbers who committed the heist at the Louvre to return the stolen items in exchange for a reward after a few years.

It is noteworthy that the Louvre plans to address security issues by 2032 following the jewelry robbery. By that time, according to the national audit office, only 39% of museum rooms will be equipped with surveillance cameras by 2024.
