Cherkasy Region Appoints New Police Chief
According to Главком: In the wake of an investigation into the murder of four police officers, a new police chief has been appointed for Ukraine's Cherkasy region. The tragic incident occurred during an arrest attempt when a suspect opened fire on law enforcement personnel. Colonel Yaroslav Mezhennyi, who previously held leadership roles in police units of the Donetsk region, is now the head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Cherkasy Oblast.
The former head of the Main Directorate, Oleh Hudyma, has been suspended from his duties for the duration of the murder investigation. The shooting, which resulted in four officers killed and one wounded, took place just 500 meters from the suspect's home. The gunman was identified as 59-year-old Serhii Rusinov, a resident of Korsunshchyna and a former serviceman. According to Yaroslav Nyshchyk, a former secretary of the Cherkasy City Council and currently a soldier in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he and Rusinov served together in the 158th and 198th battalions during the full-scale war.
