The suspect in the murder of Parubiy seeks exchange: what is known about his chances
Readiness for prisoner exchange
According to glavcom.ua: Mikhail Stselnikov, suspected of murdering MP Parubiy, has expressed readiness for a prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia. This is reported by 'Glavkom' in the article 'The False Drama of Parubiy's Killer'.
Ukraine has previously exchanged its citizens for Russians. For example, in September 2022, an exchange took place involving MP Viktor Medvedchuk, a close associate of Putin, for 200 defenders of 'Azovstal' who were in captivity.
There are also examples of citizen exchanges under the 'I want to go home' project. In May 2025, Ukraine exchanged 70 convicted collaborators for detained civilians and military personnel. Additionally, in early April of this year, about 300 Ukrainian citizens convicted of state treason and other charges expressed a desire to go to Russia.
Detention and reclassification of charges
"Considering the collected evidence, the legal qualification of the criminal offense has been changed to part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons) and Article 112 (attempt on the life of a member of the Parliament of Ukraine, committed in connection with his state or public activities) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," it is reported.
According to these articles, the punishment for this crime can be imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
Summary: Ukraine and Russia continue to exchange prisoners of war and convicted citizens. Readiness for such exchanges is expressed by both sides, including suspects of serious crimes. Meanwhile, due to the reclassification of the offense, Mikhail Stselnikov may expect a punishment of imprisonment.
