Why Verka Serduchka Still Sings in Russian: The Opinions of Slava Dyomin and Arthur Adamov

Verka Serduchka's performance at the Odessa club Ibiza has once again sparked the discussion about Andriy Danilko's Russian-language hits. In a conversation between Slava Dyomin and show business observer Arthur Adamov, two opposite positions were voiced: the artist's right to their own repertoire and the responsibility to the audience during wartime.

Arthur Adamov noted that at the concert in Odessa, Serduchka performed, among other things, old Russian-language songs, including 'Everything Will Be Fine.' In his opinion, for an artist of such scale, this seems contradictory.

The observer does not deny Danilko's contribution to Ukrainian culture and his public support for Ukraine. However, he believes that influential performers should set a different tone and not leave the impression that the Russian language on the big stage is still a normal occurrence.

Adamov also reminded that many Ukrainian artists after 2022 have translated old songs or refused part of their Russian-language catalog. In his opinion, old hits can evoke nostalgia, but it is this nostalgia that brings listeners back to the cultural habits of the past.

Russian-Language Songs of Serduchka: The Position of Slava Dyomin

Slava Dyomin, on the other hand, emphasized that Danilko communicates in Ukrainian in everyday life, supports the country, and works in Ukraine. The host described Serduchka's Russian-language compositions as old author's songs, rather than a new product created during the full-scale war.

According to him, a large audience comes to Verka Serduchka's concerts, who know these songs and are ready to listen to them. Dyomin explains the popularity of the repertoire not only by the language but also by the emotions and memories associated with it.

The host added that Danilko had previously spoken about working on Ukrainian-language songs. At the same time, there was no comment from the artist himself regarding the performance in Ibiza or plans to change the concert program in this episode.
