Widespread Staffing Shortages in Ukrainian Business
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian companies are grappling with a severe shortage of workers, particularly those with specialized skills. Research indicates that 75% of enterprises report difficulties in finding new employees, while 64% of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses cite a lack of qualified personnel. This crisis is exacerbated by a significant number of men of conscription age avoiding official employment in an attempt to evade military mobilization, creating a major imbalance in the labor market. The ongoing war has fundamentally reshaped the nation's workforce, intensifying these economic pressures.
The 'critical worker' status, which exempts some employees from mobilization, applies to only 50% of men of conscription age. Official statistics show that women constitute the majority of registered unemployed individuals.
"If you look at the official statistics of those registering as unemployed, they are mainly women," noted Darina Marchak.
Government Employment Strategy
The Ukrainian government is addressing this issue and has an employment strategy extending to 2030. The plan aims to bring 2 million people into the labor market by 2030 and 4.5 million by 2035.
"I think it's better to go to the Ministry of Defense here," added Marchak, highlighting the need for a coordinated approach involving multiple state bodies to resolve the employment question.
The labor market situation remains complex, and finding effective solutions to support Ukrainian business is crucial. The shortage of skilled workers could significantly impact the country's economic stability, as businesses are unable to meet their obligations and grow without the necessary staff.
