Ukraine Sets June 1 Deadline for Major Road Repairs, Details Key Routes
Road Repair Efforts Across Ukraine
According to Главком: Ukraine is undertaking extensive road repairs, having already fixed over 1 million square meters of damage since the start of the year-the highest volume in six years. Authorities have set strict deadlines: routine maintenance on international highways must be finished by May 1, with all major repairs completed by June 1. These efforts are critical for maintaining vital supply chains and civilian mobility during the ongoing conflict.
A top priority is the network of roads supporting frontline logistics, as well as military, medical, and humanitarian transport. Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Yuliia Svyrydenko, announced an agreement with the Ministry of Defense to begin repairs within 30 kilometers of the combat line. An additional 1.5 billion UAH has been allocated for this work, with the list of roads already coordinated with the military.
Funding for Repairs and Traffic Restrictions
The government has also directed 3 billion UAH from its reserve fund. Furthermore, the 2026 state budget allocates 12.6 billion UAH for road maintenance and repair. To accelerate the work, Minister Svyrydenko has instructed her ministry to secure extra resources, including through state guarantees and cooperation with international partners.
Separately, traffic will be partially restricted on several bridges and overpasses in Kyiv from March 23 to 25 due to repair work. Additionally, starting March 6, 37 new automated traffic enforcement systems became operational on Ukrainian roads, aiming to improve safety. These infrastructure projects are a key part of national resilience, ensuring critical routes remain functional under demanding conditions.
In light of these extensive road repair initiatives, the Ukrainian government has also allocated 7.6 billion Hryvnias specifically for road restoration, with clearly defined deadlines for completion. This financial commitment underscores the urgency of maintaining infrastructure amid ongoing challenges.
