What numbers are now fined for by drivers: new police rules

Vehicle license plates are unacceptable for drivers
Нові правила для водіїв: за що тепер штрафують на дорозі?

Ukrainians have been warned that violations of the rules for the operation of vehicle license plates will no longer be considered formalities. Currently, offenses in this area are punished quite seriously. Law enforcement officials note that a license plate can unequivocally indicate the owner of the vehicle.

The basis for most fines is the absence of a number, its obscurity, or violations of installation standards. Experts emphasize that, for example, a plate covered in dirt, obscured by a frame, or placed in an inappropriate location can already become grounds for drawing up an administrative protocol.

Thus, a fine of about 1190 UAH is imposed for the absence or incorrect number. If the number does not meet standards — inverted, without nighttime illumination, obscured by other objects, dirty to the extent that it cannot be read from 20 meters, a fine can also be imposed under the same article.

Responsibility for license plates

Separate responsibility is provided for the use of special license plates — those belonging to security forces, government services, or diplomatic institutions. In this case, the fine reaches approximately 2250 UAH, and for repeat offenses — up to 5100 UAH and even revocation of driving rights for 3-6 months.

Experts recommend that drivers regularly check the condition of their license plates: clean them from dirt, ensure proper fastening, avoid covering symbols with frames, and comply with lighting and placement requirements.

Recommendations for drivers:

  • Always check that the license plate is clear and legible from a distance of 20 meters.
  • Ensure the plates are positioned in the designated place and properly secured.
  • Avoid using decorative frames, stickers, or films that may obscure symbols.
  • Ensure that plates have operational lighting at night and are not covered by objects.
  • When using special equipment or license plates for special purposes, ensure they are officially registered, otherwise, the fine may be severe.

Ukrainians have been warned that violations of the rules for the operation of vehicle license plates will no longer go unnoticed. The police will monitor compliance with the law, so it is better for drivers to follow the recommendations and check the condition of their plates to avoid fines.
