Einar Hedegart Returns to Biathlon

According to Главком: Norwegian cross-country skier Einar Hedegart, a double Olympic champion from 2026, has announced his return to biathlon. After negotiations with the federation ended in a compromise, he will spend the upcoming season with the B-team under the guidance of Anders Everbü. This decision marks a pivotal moment in the athlete's career, as he had originally planned to continue skiing competitively until April 20.

Olympic Glory and New Challenges Ahead

Hedegart claimed two gold medals at the 2026 Olympics-one in the relay and another in the team sprint. However, Norway's biathlon team did not guarantee him a spot on the main roster, which likely influenced his decision to switch disciplines.

'I am confident that I can win an individual race as early as next season-and I take full responsibility for those words.' - Einar Hedegart

Hedegart also noted that 'in two years, I will have more time to become more consistent in shooting and, hopefully, compete for the overall title.' His move comes amid broader shifts in Norway's sports landscape; for instance, three-time world champion cross-country skier Vågnes has also transitioned into professional sports, signing a contract with Mjølnerbygda, a club competing in the fourth division of the Norwegian league system.

By returning to biathlon, Hedegart hopes to achieve new milestones and find success in this fresh chapter of his career.

Hedegart's comeback may signal a shift in his priorities and a desire to fully realize his potential in a different discipline. Biathlon demands intense focus and sharp shooting skills, presenting a significant challenge for the athlete. His Olympic triumphs could inspire further accomplishments and draw renewed attention to biathlon in Norway, a country where the sport enjoys widespread popularity.
