Former Formula 1 Driver Ralf Schumacher Weds French Partner
Ralf Schumacher and Etienne Bousquet-Cassagne Tie the Knot
According to Главком: Former Formula 1 racer Ralf Schumacher has married Frenchman Etienne Bousquet-Cassagne in Saint-Tropez. The wedding took place nearly two years after the athlete came out publicly, announcing his relationship with a man in July 2024. Schumacher received support on this significant occasion from his son David and drag queen Conchita Wurst.
Bousquet-Cassagne, who grew up in a conservative farming family, previously pursued a political career with Marine Le Pen's National Front. However, after meeting Schumacher, he decided to leave politics. During the wedding ceremony, Schumacher shared these words:
"Last weekend marked the beginning of the first chapter of our new life together, surrounded by everyone who loves us. With pride and excitement, I said that I choose you forever-Etienne Bousquet-Cassagne."
Ralf Schumacher's Racing Career
The German driver and motorsport executive, younger brother of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, started karting at age three. He later competed in German Formula 3, Formula Nippon, and the All-Japan GT Championship. Schumacher joined Formula 1 ahead of the 1997 season, racing for Jordan in his first two years and securing two podium finishes.
Over the next six seasons, he drove for Williams, and from 2001 to 2003, he was among the rivals challenging his older brother for the title. He then spent three more years at Toyota, achieving two additional podiums. In total, Ralf Schumacher contested 182 Grands Prix in Formula 1, earning 6 wins, 27 podiums, 6 pole positions, and 8 fastest laps. After leaving Formula 1, he moved to the DTM series, where he also found success.
In his personal life, Schumacher was married to TV presenter Cora Brinkmann from 2001 to 2015. The couple had a son, David, but during the divorce, his ex-wife was awarded €6 million and the family home in North Rhine-Westphalia. Now, following these new life changes, Schumacher and Bousquet-Cassagne are planning the next chapter of their shared story, which the athlete says is just beginning.
This event marks a significant step not only in Ralf Schumacher's personal life but also in the broader shift in attitudes toward the LGBTQ+ community in sports. Schumacher's marriage could serve as an example for other athletes facing similar challenges who wish to live openly. At the same time, the death of Alessandro Zanardi serves as a reminder of the difficulties and hurdles athletes can encounter, even after their careers end, highlighting the importance of support and solidarity within the sporting world.
