Enzo Maresca Poised to Take Over Manchester City

According to Главком: Italian manager Enzo Maresca is on the verge of becoming the next head coach of Manchester City, following Pep Guardiola’s departure. According to a report from Glavcom citing insider Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has been reached, and a three-year contract is expected to be signed. Guardiola will step down after the current season concludes.

Maresca, currently without a club, was dismissed from Chelsea on January 1, 2026. During his previous season, he led Chelsea to victories in both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Fiorentina and Napoli had also shown interest in appointing him, but Maresca now appears to have the strongest chance of taking the helm at the English club.

Guardiola’s Legacy and the Transition at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola, the 55-year-old Spaniard, has been in charge of Manchester City since 2016. Under his leadership, the team has collected numerous trophies, including:

  • six English Premier League titles
  • the FA Cup

Guardiola will leave the club at the end of the season, with his final matches scheduled for May 19, 2026, away against Bournemouth, and May 24, 2026, at home versus Aston Villa. Currently, Manchester City sits second in the Premier League standings, two points behind Arsenal.

As a result, Manchester City is preparing for a change on the sidelines, with Enzo Maresca potentially taking over as the new manager, aiming to build on the winning tradition established by Guardiola.

The managerial shift at Manchester City could significantly impact the club’s future, especially given the successes achieved under Guardiola. Appointing Maresca, who already has experience managing top-tier teams, may mark a new chapter for City in their pursuit of silverware.

The new coach’s strategy and playing style will likely shape the team’s performance in both domestic and international competitions moving forward.

As Manchester City prepares for a significant managerial transition, the future of Pep Guardiola remains a topic of speculation. Reports suggest that he could be eyeing a role with the Italian national team, which could reshape the landscape of international football. This potential move highlights the ripple effects of managerial changes in top clubs, as Guardiola's next steps may influence future coaching strategies across Europe.
