Feyenoord Parts Ways with Robin van Persie

According to Главком: Rotterdam-based club Feyenoord has officially dismissed Robin van Persie from his role as head coach. The decision, made by club management, cuts short a contract that was originally set to run until the summer of 2027. Van Persie took over the team in February 2025, leading them to a second-place finish in the Eredivisie for the 2025/26 season and securing a spot in the Champions League group stage.

Van Persie’s Track Record and Coaching Journey

During the 2024/25 campaign, Feyenoord ended in third place under van Persie’s guidance. This marked his second senior-level coaching role, following his stint at Heerenveen. Earlier, he had worked within Feyenoord’s setup as an assistant coach for the first team and managed both the club’s youth and reserve squads.

A legendary former player, Robin van Persie represented clubs including:

  • Feyenoord
  • Arsenal
  • Manchester United
  • Fenerbahçe

As a player, he also earned a bronze medal at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Currently, other notable coaches active in football include Cristian Chivu, who manages Inter Milan, and Diego Simeone, who will mark 15 years in charge of Atletico Madrid this year.

Van Persie’s dismissal may signal a strategic shift in the club’s management, as the team’s results-despite certain achievements-may not have met the board’s expectations.

This move could also impact Feyenoord’s plans for the upcoming season, with finding a new head coach now a top priority. At the same time, van Persie’s departure opens up fresh opportunities for his coaching career, given his experience and reputation in the football world.
