Footballer Faces Contract Termination and Army Call-Up After Assaulting Soldier
Footballer Daniil Kolesnik Caught on Video Attacking Soldier
According to Главком: A video posted online by 24-year-old footballer Daniil Kolesnik shows him punching a man in military uniform in the face. Kolesnik plays for the Ukrainian club Kolos, based in Kovalivka. Following the incident's circulation, Kolesnik deleted the story and blocked access to his social media page.
Club and Military Authorities Respond
In response, the management of FC Kolos has suspended the attacker from team training. The club's legal team is now working to terminate the contract with the reserve team player. This incident occurs against the backdrop of Ukraine's ongoing war, where public support for the military is considered paramount.
The Kyiv Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TCC and SP) reacted to the situation by offering Kolesnik a position in the army. The TCC noted that based on his anthropometric data, Kolesnik could be suitable for service in the Air Assault Forces and urged him to sign a contract voluntarily rather than wait for a mobilization summons. In a statement, the TCC contrasted his behavior with that of other Ukrainian athletes, like Vladyslav Heraskevych, who participate in the Olympic Games and work to convey the truth about the war in Ukraine.
"The behavior of a sports star who violates ethical norms can affect the image of sport and society as a whole."
The incident has provoked significant public outcry. The reactions from both the TCC and the football club underscore the critical importance of supporting national interests and military service during wartime. The situation surrounding Kolesnik may serve as a cautionary tale for other public figures regarding their social responsibility.
