Galbot Unveils PASSAGE System Enabling Humanoid Robots to Navigate Tight and Cluttered Spaces
Introducing Galbot's PASSAGE Technology for Humanoid Robots
According to НВ — Техно: Galbot has developed an advanced system called PASSAGE that empowers humanoid robots to skillfully maneuver through narrow and cluttered environments. This innovative technology allows robots to step over obstacles, duck under barriers, and turn sideways to squeeze through confined passages. By integrating environmental perception, motion planning, and precise body control, PASSAGE significantly enhances a robot's ability to adapt in complex settings.
Extensive Training and Impressive Test Outcomes
To train PASSAGE, the team collected 100 hours of human motion data across 1,500 simulated scenarios. Leveraging lidar sensors, the system achieves highly accurate environmental awareness. Notably, PASSAGE operates entirely on the Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin platform without relying on pre-mapped data or external computing resources.
Testing demonstrated outstanding performance: in 750 simulations involving 150 previously unseen environments, the robot successfully reached its target 98.67% of the time. It completed obstacle-free navigation in 70.3% of these trials. Real-world experiments were conducted using the Unitree G1 humanoid robot across 50 unfamiliar space configurations, where the robot never fell or required safety interventions. Impressively, in physical tests, the system guided the robot through 45 routes without any contact with obstacles, confirming PASSAGE’s effectiveness outside of simulations.
This breakthrough marks a significant advancement in robotics, especially for applications demanding movement within restricted areas. Potential uses include:
- Search and rescue missions
- Maintenance in challenging environments
- Domestic assistance
Given these promising results, PASSAGE is poised for integration into commercial humanoid robots, broadening their capabilities in everyday scenarios. The adoption of cutting-edge hardware like the Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin highlights Galbot’s commitment to pioneering autonomous robotics solutions.
