Appeal to the Antimonopoly Committee

According to Главком: Danylo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, has formally addressed the leadership of Ukraine's Antimonopoly Committee. This action was prompted by significant and concerning fluctuations in fuel prices, which have alarmed both consumers and government officials. In a related move to bolster market stability, the Ukrainian parliament has also passed legislation to establish a strategic fuel reserve within the country.

Current Fuel Market Conditions

Recent price reports highlight the volatility: the Ukrnafta network is offering A-95 gasoline at 67.99 UAH per liter. In contrast, Wog stations are charging 73.99 UAH per liter for A-95 Euro gasoline. Meanwhile, prices at Okko and Socar stations are set at 70.99 UAH per liter for A-95. These sharp price differences led Hetmantsev to state:

“As a member of parliament, I have appealed to the head of the Antimonopoly Committee. My colleagues understand the problem and are working on the issue.”

He stressed the importance of a formal response, noting that “the work of any state mechanism within the legal framework is not swift, but the outcome is inevitable.” Hetmantsev also highlighted the social responsibility of businesses, adding: “I understand this is business, and business is always business, with profit as its main goal. However, in a country at war where half the nation relies on generators, a powerful business like yours also carries a certain social function.”

In his appeal, Hetmantsev urged business representatives to 'come to their senses' and avoid actions that could necessitate further intervention from the Antimonopoly Committee: “Do not force us to turn to the Antimonopoly Committee.” Consequently, the fuel market situation remains under close scrutiny by state authorities, who are actively working to resolve the price instability.

The fuel price situation in Ukraine is a source of major concern not only for consumers but also for government bodies, underscoring the need for decisive action to stabilize costs. Legislative initiatives, such as creating a strategic fuel reserve, could help reduce price volatility amid ongoing warfare and economic challenges. It is crucial for all market participants to consider their social responsibility, as stable fuel prices directly impact public welfare. Therefore, the subsequent steps taken by both the state and businesses will be critically important in resolving this issue. Fuel price stability is a key economic concern during wartime, affecting logistics, civilian mobility, and the cost of essential goods.
