Hasids are arriving en masse to Uman for Rosh Hashanah: where they are waiting up to 7 hours at the border

Queues at the entrance to Ukraine have increased due to the massive arrival of Hasids for the Rosh Hashanah celebration in Uman. At the 'Shehyni - Medyka' crossing, the waiting time reached almost seven hours, and a total of about 17,000 pilgrims have already arrived in the country. This crossing has previously been one of the busiest at the border. Visit Ukraine reports this.

Where the largest queues at the border are due to the arrival of Hasids

On the morning of September 10, significant congestion was recorded at the Ukrainian-Polish crossing 'Shehyni - Medyka'. According to border monitoring services, there were about 65 cars in line, as well as buses and pedestrians.

The average waiting time for control was almost seven hours. The situation is complicated by the reconstruction of the crossing: since June 2026, bus traffic restrictions have been in place for the route from Ukraine to Poland.

At the same time, the main flow of Hasids to Uman is currently passing not through Poland, but through Moldova. Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Service, mentioned the 'Starokozache' crossing as one of the key routes.

Recently, this crossing was attacked by Russian drones. Two civilians were killed, and two others were injured. The crossing was temporarily suspended, but was later restored to normal operation.

How many Hasids have already arrived in Uman for Rosh Hashanah

About 17,000 pilgrims have already crossed the Ukrainian border. The highest load occurred in the last days: within one day, nearly 7,800 Hasids entered Ukraine, while the day before there were just over 3,000.

The first organized groups began arriving at the end of August. Rosh Hashanah in 2026 will be celebrated from the evening of September 11 to the evening of September 13. Traditionally, thousands of Hasids go to Uman to visit the grave of Rabbi Nachman.

Due to military risks, security measures in Uman have been strengthened, and checkpoints are operating at the entrances to the city. It is expected that just before the start of the celebration, the flow of pilgrims will remain high.
