Which pensioners are entitled to free electricity and gas in 2026
Certain categories of Ukrainian pensioners are entitled to full exemption from paying for housing and communal services. The benefit covers not only gas and electricity, but also other utility payments and even the purchase of solid fuel. However, only citizens who meet the requirements set by law can take advantage of it. Reported by 24 Kanal, citing the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
Utility benefits: which pensioners do not pay for gas and electricity
Pensioners who worked in rural areas in socially important positions before retirement and continue to live in the village after ceasing employment are entitled to 100% compensation for housing and communal services.
The benefit is available for:
- pedagogical workers;
- medical and pharmaceutical workers;
- plant protection specialists;
- museum workers;
- librarians;
- employees of state and municipal cultural institutions;
- employees of educational institutions in the culture sector.
At the same time, belonging to one of these professions does not guarantee the receipt of the benefit.
How to apply for utility benefits for pensioners
To receive compensation, several conditions must be met:
- have at least three years of service in the relevant position;
- at the time of retirement, be employed in a profession that entitles one to benefits;
- after the pension is granted, reside permanently in a rural area.
To apply for the benefit, the pensioner must be included in the Register of persons entitled to benefits, submit the appropriate application, and provide documents confirming residence in the village.
Once the benefit is granted, the state will compensate 100% of the cost of housing and communal services and the purchase of solid fuel within the limits established by law.
Additionally, elderly pensioners have another important benefit. They are exempted from paying land tax for certain plots of land, specifically those up to 2 hectares for personal farming and for the land under residential buildings and economic structures. If the area exceeds the established norms, the tax is paid only for the 'excess' meters.
It should be noted that according to current legislation, combatants receive a 75% discount on utility payments.
