Battery Imports from China Surge by 109%

According to ХВИЛЯ: According to Ukraine's State Customs Service, the country's import of batteries in January 2026 reached 13.6 thousand tons, a 109% increase compared to January 2025. This surge in demand is largely driven by China, which supplies 91% of the market, a share valued at over 9.5 billion hryvnias. This trend reflects a broader global shift towards electrification and renewable energy storage.

In January 2025, battery imports totaled 6.5 thousand tons. The value of imports in January 2026 exceeded 10.4 billion hryvnias, which is 6.5 billion hryvnias more than the same period the previous year. Customs duties paid into the state budget amounted to 316.8 million hryvnias.

Other Key Supplier Nations

Among other supplying countries in January 2026, the United States held a 1.51% market share, equivalent to 160 million hryvnias, while Poland accounted for 1.49%, or 155 million hryvnias. Consequently, China remains the dominant supplier of batteries to Ukraine, significantly outpacing all other sources.

The sharp rise in battery imports points to a growing need for energy solutions, likely connected to the development of electric vehicles and alternative energy sources within Ukraine. This increased import volume could also impact the domestic battery market, influencing pricing and product availability for consumers. This is a significant economic development that warrants close observation for its potential effects on the national economy.
