Ukraine to Automatically Increase Workplace Injury Insurance Payouts from March 1
Automatic Recalculation of Insurance Payouts in Ukraine
According to Пенсії (RSS): Starting March 1, 2026, monthly insurance payouts for victims of workplace accidents or their families in Ukraine will be automatically recalculated and increased. This change is part of a broader social protection initiative by the Ukrainian government. The increase will be calculated using a coefficient of 1.121, but the maximum raise for any individual payment is capped at 2,595 hryvnias. This measure is being implemented under a Cabinet of Ministers decree and the relevant social insurance law.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted decree No. 236 on February 25, 2026, titled 'On the Indexation of Pension and Insurance Payments and Additional Measures to Improve the Level of Social Protection for the Most Vulnerable Segments of the Population in 2026'. The recalculation applies not only to individuals who suffered from workplace accidents or occupational diseases but also to those entitled to benefits in the event of the victim's death.
Key Features of the Payment Recalculation
Importantly, the recalculation will happen automatically, with no need for beneficiaries to apply. The size of the increase is determined individually and depends on the amount of the assigned payment. According to the terms, the insurance payment is provided monthly starting from the month following its assignment and accrual. The indexed payment for March will be delivered in April. This action is carried out in accordance with Article 31 of Ukraine's Law 'On Mandatory State Social Insurance'.
This initiative is part of the Ukrainian government's efforts to improve social protection for citizens harmed by workplace accidents. Automating the payment adjustment process aims to reduce administrative burdens for victims and their families. The introduction of this mechanism is expected to positively impact financial support for vulnerable population groups requiring assistance in difficult life circumstances.
