Disability Payments for Ukrainians in 2026

According to ХВИЛЯ: Starting in May 2026, disability payments for Ukrainians will reflect the March indexation increase of 12.1%. The amount each person receives depends on their disability group, insurance record, and any special statuses they hold-such as being a Chornobyl survivor or a war veteran. According to data from the Pension Fund of Ukraine, these benefits are calculated as a percentage of the old-age pension.

Payment Amounts by Disability Group

Individuals in disability group I receive 100% of the old-age pension, group II gets 90%, and group III receives 50%. For example, if the base old-age pension is 6,000 hryvnias, after recalculation a person in group I would get 6,726 hryvnias, group II would receive 6,053 hryvnias, and group III would get 3,363 hryvnias. In 2026, the minimum pension threshold in Ukraine is set at 2,595 hryvnias.

For Chornobyl-affected individuals, minimum payments have risen by 12.1% since March. Specifically, those in group I now have a floor of 11,048.25 hryvnias, group II receives at least 8,838.60 hryvnias, and group III-along with children with disabilities-gets a minimum of 6,813.09 hryvnias. For Chornobyl liquidators, payments are calculated based on Ukraine's average salary for 2025, which was 20,653.55 hryvnias. Thus, in May 2026, liquidator pensioners in group I receive 100% of that average (20,653.55 hryvnias), group II gets 80% (16,522.84 hryvnias), and group III receives 60% (12,392.13 hryvnias).

Additionally, for those who became disabled due to war, minimum guarantees have been set. These cannot fall below:

  • 18,885 hryvnias for group I
  • 15,494 hryvnias for group II
  • 10,625 hryvnias for group III
As experts note, 'the state assesses the consequences of the disaster for liquidators using a special formula.'

These updated payments aim to address the diverse needs of people with disabilities and ensure a decent standard of living. They reflect the government's effort to tailor social support to different population groups. In particular, raising benefits for Chornobyl victims and war veterans could be a significant step toward social justice, supporting those who need it most. It is crucial that these changes are implemented effectively so that all eligible individuals receive their payments on time and in full.

As the Ukrainian government continues to adjust its social support systems, it's important for recipients to stay informed about upcoming changes. Notably, the recent pension increase for Group II disability recipients in April 2026 could significantly impact financial planning for many families. Understanding these shifts can help individuals better navigate their benefits and ensure they receive the support they are entitled to.
