Ivan Miranda Unveils Massive 3D-Printed Mechanical Display Featuring Rotating Text Spheres
Ivan Miranda's Latest Engineering Marvel
According to НВ — Техно: Engineer and video blogger Ivan Miranda has revealed an impressive new creation: a giant mechanical display that continuously presents text using black and white spheres. Almost the entire structure, housed in Miranda's workshop, was produced with 3D printing technology and takes the form of a large vertical ring.
How the Display Operates
This innovative device generates text similarly to traditional pixel-based screens, but replaces LEDs with two-toned balls. At its core is a mechanical manipulator equipped with an infrared sensor to instantly detect each sphere’s color. Movement is powered by a stepper motor mounted on steel bearings. After forming a line of text, the spheres drop into a collection tray and are automatically returned to the storage compartment, enabling an endless loop of information display.
The design, testing, and printing of the plastic parts took several months. Although complex mechanics occasionally cause slight distortions in characters, the system can be fine-tuned for improved accuracy. Ivan Miranda’s previous 3D printing projects include:
- a functional electric go-kart
- a full-size motorcycle
- a treadmill
- a series of mechanical clocks
This mechanical display highlights a cutting-edge fusion of 3D printing and mechanical engineering to present information in a novel way. Such inventions reflect growing interest in how emerging technologies can transform visual communication.
Miranda’s work not only showcases creativity and technical skill but also points toward new applications in advertising, art, and educational tools. Innovations like this encourage the development of unique solutions that blend physical mechanisms with digital concepts, potentially reshaping how information is conveyed worldwide.
