Ivo Bobul on Ukraine's victories at Eurovision: It was undeserved

Ivo Bobul criticizes the results of Eurovision
Іво Бобул про перемоги України на Євробаченні: Це було несправедливо.

People's Artist Ivo Bobul expressed doubt that the winners of 2016 and 2022 at Eurovision from Ukraine earned their triumphs deservedly. This was reported by the 'Hlavkom' website, referring to Slava Dyomin's YouTube channel.

'The song, don't take offense, is not a competitive song. Absolutely! Don't be offended, Jamala. I love you, you know. The singer is great, but that was not your song. I understand why it had to be done,' loudly declared Ivo Bobul about the composition 1944.

Commenting on the winners Kalush Orchestra in 2022 revealed an understanding of the political context of the competition. In 2016, Jamala's main competitor was the Russian Sergey Lazarev, helped by Putinist Filip Kirkorov. And in 2022, the world supported Ukraine at the song contest.

'Oh, come on, stop it. Guys, let's be reasonable. There are things I like. This is my opinion. Let them be offended or not. But I saw absolutely nothing in Kalush Orchestra... Sometimes it seemed to me – Ukraine is given some places, you know for what,' concluded Ivo Bobul.

Bobul's denial of participation in Eurovision and attitude towards the modern contest

Even during the full-scale war, Ivo Bobul dreamed of participating in Eurovision and believed in his chances. However, now the artist does not even want to participate in the National Selection. He has radically changed his mind, considering the contest uninteresting and explaining his position by the examples of modern participants.

'I know I wouldn't take 5th-10th place there. So why should I go there, just like that? It's uninteresting there. What I see, I understand – the contest is not what it used to be. Now there are things happening that are incomprehensible to me, completely. A guy comes out with a beard, calls himself a female name. For me, that is not understandable,' noted the artist.

Despite his personal views, Ivo Bobul remains dedicated in the music world and recalls Diva as the hit that stood out the most. He also mentioned the singer Solokha, who is participating in the National Selection for Eurovision for the fifth time.

Ivo Bobul expressed his doubts about the deservedness of Ukraine's victory at Eurovision, noting that he finds the modern contest uninteresting. The artist does not want to participate in the National Selection and emphasized that the participants of today's Eurovision are not always understandable to him.
