International Award Winner: Police Captain from Sumy Region Honored for Community Service
Alona Dubyna Earns Global Recognition
According to МВС: For 11 years, Police Captain Alona Dubyna has served the Krolevets community in Ukraine's Sumy region. Now, the International Association of Women Police has awarded her the top prize in the “Community Service” category. In her daily work, Dubyna focuses on juvenile prevention at the Konotop district police department, while also providing vital support to families navigating the country's severe social challenges.
A mother of three and the widow of a fallen Ukrainian Defender, Dubyna stepped up as a crisis coordinator for families after the full-scale invasion began. She orchestrates aid distribution, collaborates with volunteers, and supports orphaned children and foster families. Locals have come to call her a “second mother,” a testament to her profound impact on the community.
A True Community Hero
Dubyna has been named the latest hero in the Ministry of Internal Affairs' “Heroes” project, highlighting her dedication and the importance of her service. Her story inspires others to step forward and assist those in need.
This international recognition not only celebrates Dubyna's personal achievements but also underscores a broader global acknowledgment of women's vital roles in law enforcement, especially amid social crises. Her work demonstrates the critical need to support vulnerable populations-a priority made even more urgent by the ongoing war and the country's difficult socioeconomic conditions.
