Kyiv Offers 75% Reimbursement for Apartment Building Generators
Kyiv's 'LightHome' Program
According to Главком: The city of Kyiv has launched a new initiative to reimburse the cost of generators, solar panels, and other energy equipment for multi-apartment residential buildings. Under the 'LightHome' program, the municipal government will cover up to 75% of the expenses for generators, solar charging stations, and inverters. Applications can be submitted by homeowners' associations (OSBB), building managers, and housing cooperatives through the city's Services Portal or Administrative Service Centers (TsNAP).
Program Goals and Support
'LightHome' is a government-backed initiative designed to bolster the energy independence of residential buildings. Following a review of applications, approved reimbursements are processed within 48 hours. In the first two and a half weeks of the program, 126 apartment buildings have already received over 33 million hryvnias to fund autonomous power systems. Eligible buildings can secure funding ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 hryvnias for purchasing the necessary equipment.
This effort is part of a broader national strategy to strengthen energy resilience following widespread attacks on Ukraine's power infrastructure. Additionally, low-income residents and internally displaced persons may qualify for extra financial aid from the city. Starting February 2nd, entrepreneurs can also access a separate government energy support package, which includes grants of up to 15,000 hryvnias and zero-interest loans for energy equipment. The government continues to expand support programs for energy autonomy, targeting both multi-apartment buildings and private homes.
The launch of the 'LightHome' program underscores the Ukrainian authorities' commitment to ensuring the resilience of the nation's energy infrastructure during crises.
Providing compensation for energy equipment not only helps residents reduce electricity costs but also encourages a shift toward renewable energy sources. This is expected to have a positive impact on the overall level of energy security and self-sufficiency across the country.
