Adjustments in Green Line Metro Service

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Starting October 4, during periods of a yellow threat level, Kyiv’s green metro line trains have been running above ground, connecting the right and left banks of the Dnipro River. This measure ensures continued passenger transport amid heightened security concerns. If the threat level escalates to red, surface operations will halt, and trains will operate only on select underground sections.

Under red alert conditions, green line trains will run exclusively between 'Syrets' and 'Vydubychi' stations, as well as between 'Osokorky' and 'Chervony Khutir'. Prior to resuming passenger service, test runs were conducted in both directions, confirming the system’s readiness to operate under the updated safety protocols.

Plans to Reinstate Service Over the Southern Bridge

The Kyiv Metro is also prepared to restore train movement across the Southern Bridge during a yellow alert. However, reopening this route depends on the city obtaining expert assessments on the bridge’s structural condition from scientific institutions, as requested by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine. Without these evaluations, resuming service remains impossible.

It’s important to recall that a Russian drone struck the Northern Bridge in Kyiv for the second time, damaging the roadway surface. This event highlights the ongoing security challenges that affect all aspects of city life, including passenger transportation.

Given the continuing military threat, modifications to public transit operations, especially within the metro system, are essential for adapting infrastructure to evolving circumstances. Prioritizing passenger safety while maintaining the functionality of Kyiv’s transit network directly impacts residents’ mobility. If reopened, the Southern Bridge route would significantly enhance connectivity between different city districts.

As the situation remains fluid, it’s crucial for residents to stay informed about the latest updates on public transportation. Recently, surface transport has resumed over the Southern Bridge following assessments and inspections, which are essential for ensuring passenger safety amid ongoing security threats. Understanding these developments can help commuters navigate their travel plans more effectively.
