Kirkorov Claims Role in Bulgaria’s Eurovision 2026 Victory Preparation
Philip Kirkorov and Eurovision 2026
According to Главком: Philip Kirkorov has announced his involvement in preparing Bulgaria for Eurovision 2026, where the country emerged as the winner. Bulgaria was represented at the contest by 27-year-old singer Dara with the song Bangaranga. Kirkorov claims his team helped promote the artist and stage the performance for the national selection, after being approached by Bulgarian television. He stated that together with his team, he selected the singer and began preparations for the competition.
Political Views and Backlash
Kirkorov supports Russia’s war against Ukraine. Since the full-scale invasion began, he has actively voiced his support and participated in events in occupied Ukrainian territories. In 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) notified Kirkorov of suspicion for violating entry procedures to temporarily occupied territories.
The 70th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Vienna, where Bulgaria secured victory. The jury awarded the country 204 points, with an additional 312 points from the public vote. Commenting on his role in preparing for the contest, Kirkorov said:
“I couldn’t deny myself such pleasure. And although my appearance at the contest itself would likely have sparked unhealthy interest both at the event and in our country, I might have been misunderstood. Yet music has no borders and should have nothing to do with politics.”
He also emphasized:
“No matter what, Bulgaria was our 16th republic. Bulgarians love Russians very much and miss Russia. But again, music knows no borders. And for me, working with Bulgaria this year is a matter of honor, dignity, and memory of my father, who was connected to Bulgaria. I simply had to do it.”
As a result, Kirkorov’s involvement in preparing Bulgaria for Eurovision 2026 has stirred significant controversy, especially given his political views and actions.
Kirkorov’s participation in the Bulgarian Eurovision 2026 project could be seen as an attempt to bridge cultural ties between the two countries despite political tensions. His remarks about musical unity and the importance of his father’s memory point to personal motivation, but also raise questions about the alignment of his actions with his political stance. This situation highlights the complex interplay between culture and politics in today’s world.
