China Creates an Intellectualized Army: How AI is Erasing Borders for the PLA
China Blurs the Line Between Civilian and Military Artificial Intelligence
The head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, reported that China is combining civilian and military technologies in the field of artificial intelligence. His words indicate that China has a strategy of military-civil integration that will create an 'intellectualized army' capable of competing with the US and its allies.
'According to analysts from CSET, from 2023 to 2024, the People's Liberation Army of China has signed 2,857 contracts for artificial intelligence. More than 1,500 different organizations are involved in these agreements. Of these, 70% are private companies established after 2010 that have offered various technologies for military use,' Kovalenko explained.
According to him, state corporations like CETC, CASC, and NORINCO play a key role in this process, obtaining the largest contracts for the development of military technologies. Active collaboration between universities and civilian higher education institutions with the defense sector also makes an important contribution to progress.
In expert opinion, this trend poses a serious challenge for the West, as many of these structures are not under sanctions but are already transferring advanced technologies to China.
The news reveals China's continuity in the development of civilian and military technologies in the field of artificial intelligence, creating certain challenges for Western countries and enhancing competition in this area.
