Machinery and Equipment Flowing from China to Russia

According to Главком: China is providing Russia with machinery, equipment, and components for weapons manufacturing, including hypersonic missiles, with the total value of these shipments reaching at least $10.3 billion. Ukrainian intelligence identified a Chinese-made CNC lathe at the Votkinsk Plant, Russia's primary missile production facility. This support is critical for Russia's military-industrial complex, which faces significant constraints due to Western sanctions.

The supplies being sent from China include:

  • Machine tools;
  • Precision instruments;
  • High-tech equipment for producing hypersonic weapons, such as the Oryeshnyk missile.

The Votkinsk Plant manufactures not only the Oryeshnyk missile but also the Iskander-M and the Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile. It is noted that Russia currently possesses no more than three or four Oryeshnyk missiles but plans to begin their serial production in 2026.

Deployment of Oryeshnyk Missiles

On the night of January 9th, Russian forces used an Oryeshnyk missile to strike the Lviv region. Ukraine's Security Service displayed fragments recovered from the attack site, which included the guidance unit, engine parts, and orientation mechanisms.

Furthermore, China is supplying Russia with components that are on the list of goods banned for export to Russia by Western nations. This list includes:

  • Microchips and memory boards worth $4.9 billion;
  • Ball bearings valued at $130 million;
  • Piezoelectric crystals for radars and electronic warfare systems, worth $97 million;
  • Telescopic sights and measuring instruments for weapons testing.
These shipments indicate a deepening military-industrial partnership between China and Russia, which could have serious implications for regional security.

Support of this nature could enable Russia to enhance its military capabilities and prolong its aggressive policies, a development that causes concern in Western nations and Ukraine. Given the increasing scale of these transfers, it is crucial to monitor this evolving dynamic, as it has the potential to impact global security and military conflicts in the region.
