In Kyiv, the construction of the metro to the Vynogradar residential area has been accelerated, and some new stations are nearing completion. At the same time, specific launch dates for the metro to Troieschyna have not yet been announced due to the war and the difficult financial situation.

Kyiv's mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported this on the air of the television channel «Kyiv24».

Metro to Vynogradar is being built faster

According to Klitschko, the capital has increased the pace of construction of the extension of the Syrets-Pechersk metro line towards Vynogradar.

The mayor emphasized that the metro during the war not only serves a transportation function, but also acts as a shelter for residents during air attacks.

«We have increased the pace of construction of the metro to Vynogradar. This is an extremely important transport artery. Soon, some new metro stations in Vynogradar will be practically completed,» said Klitschko.

Metro to Troieschyna depends on the end of the war

Commenting on the prospects for the construction of the metro to Troieschyna, the mayor noted that the implementation of the project became possible after the completion of the main works on the Podilsko-Voskresensky Bridge.

According to him, vehicle traffic over the bridge has already been opened, and three stations of the future metro line have been built in its structure.

The next stage should be the construction of the underground part of the route. However, due to the state of war, the capital's authorities are not yet ready to announce specific completion timelines.

«During the war, we cannot talk clearly about completion timelines. When the war ends, this project will be implemented as quickly as possible,» said the mayor.

An additional obstacle remains the issue of financing. On May 28, the Kyiv City Council failed to pass a decision that would have allowed the start of negotiations with international partners regarding the attraction of a loan for the construction of the metro to Troieschyna. The document was supported by 58 deputies out of the necessary 61 votes.

Earlier, Klitschko reported how many stations of the Kyiv metro will be completely barrier-free in 2026.
