Ivano-Frankivsk Region's Roads in Crisis: MP Fris Reports No Funds for Repairs
Roads in Ivano-Frankivsk Region Reach Critical State
According to Главком: Ihor Fris, a member of parliament, has reported that roads in his constituency in the Ivano-Frankivsk region are in a critical state due to a lack of repair funding. He stated that damage affects both nationally significant highways and local community roads. The situation has been worsened by heavy snowfall, which has led to significant snowdrifts blocking roadways. This western Ukrainian region, known for its Carpathian mountain landscapes, faces particular challenges in winter maintenance.
On some stretches, roads were almost completely blocked by snow, severely hindering transport. While patrol police units coordinated special equipment and assisted drivers and passengers during the emergency response, these measures do not address the underlying problem of the roads' poor condition.
Funding Shortfall Exacerbates Problems
Ihor Fris noted that the state road between Halych and Burshtyn is in a critical state, and the situation in villages is even worse. He emphasized that roads in the Halytskyi, Tysmenytsia, and Tlumach territorial communities are virtually non-existent. The MP expressed concern over the absence of funding for road repairs, stating that numerous appeals to various authorities have yielded no results.
“There are no roads and there won't be – there is no money,” concluded Ihor Fris. He questioned why roads are being built in the east and south of the country while the Ivano-Frankivsk region suffers from what he called 'complete horror and impassability.'
The state of road surfaces in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast highlights serious infrastructure problems requiring urgent resolution. Amid worsening weather and insufficient funding, residents face significant travel difficulties, impacting their safety and daily lives. The lack of proper roads also threatens to hinder economic development and the growth of tourism infrastructure in the region.
