Teenager's Plight in Kryvyi Rih

According to Главком: A 14-year-old boy in Kryvyi Rih has been placed in a social and psychological rehabilitation center after his father, who had been raising him alone since 2022, stopped making contact. The father's disappearance followed a visit he made to the Central City Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TCC). The boy's mother lives abroad and has not been stripped of her parental rights. This case highlights the complex challenges facing families in Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.

The teenager first reported the situation to the police. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, intervened by sending inquiries to the children's services and the TCC. It is notable that the father had not been officially registered as a 'single parent,' despite the children's services advising him since 2023 to complete the necessary paperwork.

Statement from Dmytro Lubinets

Dmytro Lubinets: 'This is not an isolated incident. We are increasingly documenting similar cases where the mobilization of a parent or guardian leaves children without proper legal protection due to improperly processed documents.'

The boy's situation has raised significant concern among human rights advocates and the public, underscoring the critical need to safeguard children's rights during periods of instability. The lack of adequate legal safeguards can have severe consequences for children left without care.

This incident illustrates the profound social and legal challenges confronting children in Ukraine amid war and mobilization. Raising awareness of such vulnerabilities is a crucial step toward strengthening the country's child protection systems.
