Paramount closes legendary MTV channels in Europe: what will happen to the music broadcast
American media company Paramount is preparing to close several channels in the UK and Europe at the end of the year. Among them are MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live. The channels will cease broadcasting on December 31, 2025. The reason is the changing preferences of viewers, who increasingly choose to watch music online, particularly on YouTube and social media. Paramount's decision is part of a global strategy to cut costs by $500 million. However, the main channel MTV HD will remain on air, but its content will be changed to reality shows. Among the significant events in the channel's history were the premiere of Michael Jackson's Thriller video, the broadcast of the Live Aid concert in 1985, and the creation of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA). Ukrainians remember that MTV first appeared in Ukraine in 2007 and has been popular among youth for many years.
