Deadly Wildfires Sweep Across Spain and France
According to УНІАН — Туризм: A devastating forest fire in southern Spain has claimed at least 12 lives in the municipality of Los Gallardos, located in the province of Almería. Approximately 150 firefighters are currently battling the blaze, working to contain multiple active hotspots.
This tragedy unfolds alongside a massive wildfire in southern France, which has already forced the evacuation of over 10,000 residents from roughly two dozen towns and villages near the Spanish border. Early summer heatwaves that struck Western Europe in May and June have fueled these emergencies. According to the World Meteorological Organization, Europe is warming at more than twice the global average rate.
Heatwave Alert in the UK
The United Kingdom has also issued heat warnings, with forecasts suggesting this could be the longest heatwave since 1976. Amber health alerts will remain in effect through the evening of July 12. Temperatures are expected to reach around 25°C in the north of the country and up to 35°C in the south.
