China Eastern launches the longest flight in the world: 29 hours in the air

According to glavcom.ua: The Chinese airline China Eastern Airlines is preparing to launch the longest passenger flight in the world, which will last a record 29 hours. The first flight is scheduled for December 4, and tickets are already on sale. This is reported by 'Glavkom' referencing Express.

The record route will connect the Chinese city of Shanghai with the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, covering a distance of 12,200 miles (almost 19,634 km). Despite its length, the flight is considered 'direct' as passengers will not need to transfer to another plane during the stopover in Auckland, New Zealand.

Many may wonder why the flight is called direct when there is a stop planned. The thing is that even with the stop in Auckland, passengers will not have to change to another plane.

The approximate ticket price from Buenos Aires to Shanghai is over £1,400, while from Shanghai to Buenos Aires it is £1,280, although figures vary among different sources.

Strategic importance of the route

It is noted that this route has not only commercial but also strategic significance, as it may strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between China and South American countries. The airline plans to operate flights twice a week on a Boeing 777-300ER, which is designed for ultra-long-haul flights.
