Nearly One in Three Ukrainians Views Job Hunting as a Negative Experience: Key Factors Behind the Trend

Ukrainians search for job - negative aspects
Близько трьох із десяти українців вважають пошук роботи неприємним досвідом: основні причини цього явища.

Findings from OLX Work Research

According to Главком: A study conducted by OLX Work reveals that 29% of Ukrainians describe their job search experience as negative, largely due to a lack of feedback and unclear job descriptions. The survey, which included 1,648 participants, found that 47% rated their experience as neutral, while 38% said they rarely receive responses from employers. Additionally, 22% of respondents reported almost never getting any replies.

Major Hurdles in Hiring Processes

Key challenges identified during recruitment include:

  • 46% of participants turned down job offers because of drawn-out procedures.
  • 45% of candidates pointed to vague job descriptions as a significant issue.
  • 19% complained about long delays between hiring stages.
  • 9% felt that the number of interviews and test assignments was excessive.

When it comes to resume preparation, 30% of those surveyed encountered no difficulties, whereas 40% struggled to articulate their experience and achievements. About 36% of respondents said they are unsure what employers are looking for, and 29% felt the need to tailor their resumes for different positions.

Criteria for choosing a job are also critical. Among respondents, 72% ranked salary as the top priority, 59% emphasized work schedule, 51% valued a convenient location, 37% looked for clear job descriptions, and 31% considered the work format.

“Given the labor shortage, companies should streamline their hiring processes. This includes replacing complex resumes with simple application forms and investing in fast, transparent communication with candidates.”

The study’s results highlight ongoing issues in Ukraine’s hiring practices, which could negatively impact the labor market. A poor candidate experience may reduce interest in job openings and make it harder to find skilled workers. Implementing expert recommendations to simplify procedures and improve employer-candidate communication could significantly improve the situation.
