Kostyuk's Season: A Milestone Semifinal and Record-Breaking Stats

According to Главком: Ukrainian tennis star Marta Kostyuk secured a quarterfinal victory at the Madrid tournament, marking her tenth career semifinal on the WTA Tour. This win guarantees her return to the world’s top 20 rankings and extends her current winning streak to 10 matches.

In Madrid, Kostyuk confidently defeated her opponents, which included:

  • Yulia Putintseva
  • Jessica Pegula
  • Caty McNally

Notably, Jessica Pegula is ranked world No. 5. In the quarterfinals, Kostyuk beat the 13th seed, Linda Noskova, earning her first WTA 1000 semifinal appearance in Madrid. This victory marks her tenth consecutive win, dating back to the Rouen tournament, and she now holds a 9-0 undefeated record on clay.

By advancing to her tenth career semifinal, Kostyuk has matched her best seasonal performances from 2021 and 2024. It is also her third semifinal of the 2026 season. In the next round, she will face Anastasia Potapova, who represents Austria. Notably, Kostyuk remains the only player in the Madrid tournament who has not lost a single set.

“It wasn’t easy to handle her serve. Sometimes she sped it up and changed the pace. Given today’s wind and the strange bounces that can happen on clay, it was tough. But I just kept trying to put pressure on her. I think it worked really well today also because it was cold, so the ball didn’t bounce as much.”

Kostyuk also expressed satisfaction with her performances:

“The Madrid semifinal and this winning streak? If someone had told me that a few weeks ago, I probably wouldn’t have believed it. I’m very pleased with how I’ve played over these past few weeks.”

Alongside Elina Svitolina, Dayana Yastremska, Yuliia Starodubtseva, Oleksandra Oliynykova, Anhelina Kalinina, and Daria Snigur, Kostyuk has qualified for the main draw of Roland Garros. The 2026 French Open is scheduled to take place from May 24 to June 7, 2026.

Marta Kostyuk’s results highlight her rapid rise in world tennis, underscoring the growing competitiveness among Ukrainian female players. Her international success opens up new opportunities for the development of Ukrainian tennis and boosts interest in the sport within Ukraine. Preparing for Roland Garros, where Kostyuk has a chance to shine, will be a crucial phase in her career.

As Kostyuk continues her impressive run in Madrid, she is set to face off against fellow Ukrainian player Anastasia Potapova in a highly anticipated matchup.
