Mass power outage in Berlin

According to Главком: A large-scale power outage occurred in the southwestern part of Berlin, affecting 45 thousand households and 2200 businesses. Power restoration is expected on January 8 in the afternoon. The outage was a result of difficulties in constructing temporary lines following a fire on the cable bridge over the 'Teltow' canal.

The police have already launched an investigation into suspected arson, as the Berlin state security agency received a letter claiming responsibility for the incident. This outage has become one of the largest in recent times. In September, around 50 thousand consumers were left without electricity in the southeastern part of Berlin, and large-scale failures in the electrical networks have repeatedly caused similar situations in other cities.

Situation in other cities

In particular, in the Moscovian city of Ramenskoye, 100 thousand people were left without power due to an emergency outage, and in San Francisco, 130 thousand homes and businesses also fell victim to a large outage. In November, around 170 thousand households in Paris were left without electricity due to a substation failure. These events indicate the overall vulnerability of the electricity supply infrastructure in large cities, raising concerns among the population and authorities.

Large-scale power outages that have occurred in various cities around the world point to issues with the reliability and safety of electrical networks. In the context of Berlin, the police investigation aimed at determining the causes of the fire may have serious implications for local infrastructure and security policies. This also underscores the need for modernization and improvement of electricity supply systems to avoid similar incidents in the future.
