Ukraine – Northern Ireland: time and place of the match on October 2

The nominally home match for Ukraine will take place in Trnava, Slovakia, at Anton Malatinsky Stadium. The starting whistle will blow at 21:45 Kyiv time.

The match will be broadcast on the MEGOGO platform. A free live broadcast will be available on the MEGOGO Sport channel, accessible over T2 and cable networks. The pre-match studio will start at 20:30, and the game will be commented by Vadym Shevyakin and Ilya Dudko.

Tournament situation and team injuries

After two rounds, both Ukraine and Northern Ireland have four points. Both teams started the group stage with victories, followed by a 0:0 draw. Therefore, the outcome of the match in Trnava may change the standings at the top of the table.

Northern Ireland arrives without central defender Daniel Batty: he suffered an injury in the match against Georgia and has returned to Sunderland. The team will also miss Conor Bradley, Alistair McCann, Jamie McDonnell, and Brad Lyons.

Ukraine has welcomed back Roman Yaremchuk and Matviy Ponomarenko after health issues. However, defender Vitaliy Mykolenko from Everton will miss the national team due to a leg injury. Earlier, Andrea Maldera announced the squad for the matches and began forming a team for official encounters.

History of matches between Ukraine and Northern Ireland

The teams have met six times. Ukraine has won three times, drawn twice, and lost once. Their last meeting was in 2021: in a friendly match in Dnipro, the Ukrainians won thanks to a goal from Oleksandr Zubkov.

The most painful defeat for Ukraine was at Euro 2016 in Lyon, with a score of 0:2. In total, the teams scored only seven goals in the previous six encounters, so this time the tournament stakes may be high. For Maldera's team, this is also an opportunity to establish themselves among the group leaders. Earlier, we discussed who Andrea Maldera is and the experience he brought to the national team.
